Version 2.0, October 2023
About the publisher
The „SERO“ app is published by Luzerner Psychiatrie AG (lups) as part of the „SERO – Suizidprävention: Einheitlich Regional Organisiert“ project (regionally organised standardised suicide prevention). The „SERO“ project is part of the preventative healthcare project of Health Promotion Switzerland. It aims to reduce suicide attempts and suicide as well hospitalisation due to the risk of suicide. The „SERO“ app supports you during and between suicidal crises by documenting your current suicidal tendencies. It is thus intended for self-management.
Data protection is a particularly high priority for lups and is also ensured within the framework of the „SERO“ app.
The processing of your personal data within the framework of the „SERO“ app is covered by the law on the protection of personal data (Cantonal Data Protection Act, KDSG) of the Canton of Lucerne.
By agreeing to the Terms of Use of the „SERO“ app, you also agree to this Privacy Policy.

Data storage
lups has commissioned the Zurich-based MIDATA cooperative to securely store and manage its user data. All the data is stored in personally encrypted data accounts in Switzerland. Use of the data accounts is governed by the General Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of the MIDATA platform.
You become a MIDATA data account holder when you register with MIDATA. All data is encrypted and you retain sovereignty over it. This means that you can individually manage the personal data stored in your account on the MIDATA platform and share it, either in full or in part, with other users, with MIDATA or with third parties.
Data collection
The following information must be provided when registering with MIDATA:
- Last name
- First name
- E-mail address
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Country of residence
This information is used for registration and identification purposes and, where necessary, to enable MIDATA to handle enquiries.
When launched, the app can be used in the role of either „affected person“ or „support person“.
Personal data is stored when using the app’s functions. This data is stored in encrypted personal data accounts (see below).
The app enables the following data to be processed as described below:

- Entering, saving and editing data (text) in the „My resource plan“ function as well as exporting information from it in PDF format
Information on confidentiality and data handling
The personal data that you enter is encrypted and stored in your personal account on the MIDATA platform. Only you have access to this data and have control over it. lups does not have any access to your data.
You can also connect your existing MIDATA data account.
Deidentified data on user behaviour is used for analysis and to optimise the app. This analysis is conducted using Matomo software with complete masking of IP addresses so that no conclusions can be drawn about individual people.
Data access in general
Primarily, as the owner and controller of your data, only you have access to it. Data release to third parties (incl. MIDATA) must be approved by you transparently and explicitly. Corresponding releases are logged. lups does not have any access to your data.
Consent to data transfer in deidentified form
By using the app, you consent to the data you enter being evaluated scientifically in deidentified form within the framework of the project with the aim of better understanding the situation facing suicidal persons and their support persons, improving the services offered within the framework of the „SERO“ project, and enhancing the general services and assistance available to suicidal people and their support persons. Please note that any entries you make in free text fields will not be deidentified in order to conduct this scientific analysis. Depending on the content of such free text entries, it may be possible to draw conclusions about you.
No conclusions can be drawn about you from the analysed deidentified data.
Sharing data with third parties
If you have chosen to share data entered in the „My safety plan“ functions with third parties, this information will be made available to the people selected by you (support persons).
Revocation process and data deletion
You may stop the deidentified release of data collected with the app on the MIDATA portal at any time. You can export your data at any time and delete your MIDATA account and thus all the data stored therein.
